Both market leading companies note an increasing demand for drones-based LiDAR solutions and partner to enable clients exploiting the full potential of this technology  

 

MUNICH, Germany, and JOHANNESBURG, South Africa— March 01, 2022 — Quantum-Systems, an innovative developer, and producer of advanced eVTOL UAVs officially announced today a strategic partnership with leading drones as-a-service provider, Rocketmine to meet the growing demand for actionable, aerial Light Ranging and Detection (LiDAR) data across the African continent and Australia.   

Having deployed the innovative technology solutions across multiple countries and projects over several years, Rocketmine’s expertise as a drone-technology leader and service to the African continent’s biggest companies is unsurpassed.  

The use of a LiDAR scanner as remote sensing method generates precise, three-dimensional information about the shape of the Earth and its surface characteristics. This kind of fast actionable data is crucial for mine operators when calculating stock volumes and for other measurements.  Historically, aerial LiDAR has been a technology that could only be deployed by manned aircraft such as helicopters or planes. 

Quantum-Systems introduced the Qube 240 LiDAR sensor in 2021, which has been transformative for the industry since, offering attractive applications for several operations. The Qube 240 produces survey grade results, weighs only 930g, and can be mounted on the Trinity F90+ eVTOL fixed-wing UAV.

As a technology agnostic company and being an early adopter at the same time, Rocketmine always deploys best in class technology and solutions for their clients’ missions in challenging and complex African environments. Quantum-Systems joined Rocketmine on their RocketTechTour in September 2021 for extensive deployment of the Quantum-Systems portfolio. Over 24 days and 3,000 km of travel, 15 missions were completed, 14 flight hours conducted, and three different sensors deployed, including the Qube240 LiDAR sensor, and more than two (2) Terabytes of survey grade LiDAR data was captured.

The operations on the tech tour were successful, proving the usability, accuracy, and quality of Quantum-Systems products.

New QBase 3D Version now available for all drone pilots!

We released the newest version of our ground control station software QBase 3D. This version is packed with new functionality, focusing especially on user accounts.

The update is free for all users of QBase 3D! So we can guarantee that every user always has the latest features available.

The latest version includes a new account structure as well as a new KML manager. BSS Holland is dedicated to supporting its customers in accelerating its OODA (observe-orient-decide-act) – loop. They focus on C5ISR (Command, Control, Computers, Communications, Cyber, Intelligence, Surveillance, and Reconnaissance), sensor integration, and manned, unmanned and remote-controlled platforms. Quantum-Systems added to unmanned systems solutions portfolio.

BSS Holland has recently added the Quantum-Systems Vector™ & Scorpion™ 2-in-1 ISR platform plus the Trinity™ F90+ large-scale mapping drone to its offering, expanding it with eVTOL fixed-wing UAVs.
The Vector & Scorpion 2-in-1 platform offers customer access to a deployment kit consisting of two configuration possibilities: An eVTOL fixed-wing long-endurance UAS and a Tri-Copter short-endurance UAS in one system, sharing the same fuselage. Changing between the two is a matter of seconds and possible without any tools, which opens further applications with just one UAS.

Vector™ delivers live video streams and high-quality aerial data with AI onboard.

Vector™ provides long-endurance, versatile and flexible characteristics that are exceeding the performance of conventional UAS platforms. It is suited for advanced ISR missions, streaming live data in real-time using a Mesh IP encrypted data link with a range of 15+ kilometers. Being equipped with advanced AI capabilities, the data assessment process of Vector is supported by automatic identification and tracking algorithms, providing on-the-ground tactical units with important safety and efficiency benefits. Vector features a single flight time of 120 minutes and is also suited for applications such as Search & Rescue (SAR), Live Area Mapping, and Convoy and VIP Protection. Vector integrates dual EO and IR gimbal sensors, enabling missions both, day and night.

Scorpion™ is suitable to operate in urban environments and in tethered configuration.

Scorpion is a Tri-Copter, using the same fuselage as Vector, leading to fast deployment on-site when changing the configuration and reducing training efforts for the user. Scorpion features a single flight time of 45 minutes and is ideal for smaller-scale use, for example in densely built urban areas. For stationary use, such as monitoring crowds or surveilling objects Scorpion can be configured with a Tethering System. Scorpion is using the same Mesh IP encrypted HD data link as Vector with an operating range of at least 15 kilometers to submit aerial video data in real-time.   

Trinity F90+ is optimized to efficiently acquire high-resolution aerial data.

BSS Holland’s drone offering will be rounded-off with the Trinity F90+ – Quantum-Systems’ flagship large-scale fixed-wing mapping drone. The Trinity F90+ is a professional large-scale mapping drone designed to capture high-resolution aerial data in a user-friendly and highly efficient manner. The Trinity F90+ integrates multiple, high-precision survey-grade sensors in an easily accessible and exchangeable payload compartment – including RGB, multi-spectral, thermal, and even LiDAR. The Trinity F90+ can cover an area of up to 700 hectares with one flight, achieving a flight time of 90 minutes and more with the same battery. The Trinity F90+ comes standard with a GNSS reference station, offering high-precision PPK and RTK enabling the geotagging relative precision of down to 2-5 cm in respect to the antenna placement point.
In operations, where knowing the terrain is a decisive factor, the Trinity F90+ safely and quickly provides high-precision geospatial data that can serve as a base for intelligence operation, tactical decision, and operations.

Quantum-Systems is agnostic when it comes to data post-processing. The captured images and all metadata are suitable for the common software suits for further post-processing. Data captured with the Trinity F90+ can be processed to generate 2D maps or 3D reconstructions of vertical environment, or using it for DSMs, DTMs, point clouds, and ortho mosaics.  Data from high-precision sensors such as PPK receivers, survey-grade color, multispectral cameras, and LiDAR are all fully supported by the common software platforms Quantum-Systems is partnering with. Thanks to Quantum-Systems’ licensed partnership with ESRI, users have online and offline access in the field to curated mapping data.

Completely redesigned post-processing

You can now process an unlimited amount of flights in parallel. The new workflow guides you through the setup of each job. After a few clicks the calculations are running and you can spend your time more worthwhile than waiting for the next job to be started

Command line based post-processing.

If you have a server structure or prefer not using a GUI we have a new way of post-processing for you. The command line tool offers a way to automate post-processing of recurring flights or to embed it into your automated workflow

We improved the terrain following algorithm to respect altitude changes not only between flight legs, but during each leg. This feature is still experimental and we are looking forward to your use cases and inputs.

 

  • Possibility to select altitude over area based on average or maximum terrain altitude. Adjust the flight altitude on legs according to your needs.
  • Corridors with even number of legs. Save time on corridor missions, when there is no need for your aircraft to fly unproductive legs.

Improved mission file handling

Mission files can now be visualized on a map. This allows you to find your flown missions at a certain location much faster.

ATC communication features

  • Altitude display in m and feet simultaneously. When communicating with ATC sometimes feet is the required unit. Now you can monitor your flight the way you planned it and still read the altitude in feet.
  • QDM and QDR. Get a bearing and range of the aircraft to your reference position.

Quantum-Systems and Pix4D announce official partnership

Quantum-Systems GmbH and Pix4D have signed a contract to make their partnership official and to ease daily operations for common customers.

Gilching, Deutschland, and Prilly, Switzerland, July 6, 2020. Professionals around the globe rely on eVTOL UAVs from Quantum-Systems and Pix4D’s software suite for collecting and post-processing aerial data. The partnership between both companies ads real value to the daily operations of drone users in mining, agriculture, forestry, surveying and mapping, power, and utilities. With the partnership contract in place, users from now on are able to source Pix4D’s software suite both, directly and through Quantum-Systems’ resellers.

Efficient aerial data collection with various payloads

The Trinity F90+ is an eVTOL mapping drone for professionals. With a flight time of up to 90 minutes it is able to cover areas of up to 700ha per flight with 3,2 cm per pixel GSD at 120 m AGL. The Trinity F90+ UAV can be combined with a wide range of payload options, including RGB and multispectral (dual) payloads.

The Trinity F90+ is used by professionals around the world and sold by a global network currently counting 68 different resellers. Its typical application is composed of surveying and mapping in the agricultural, forestry, mining, and utilities sector.

Pre-planning and monitoring aerial survey missions with QBase 3D Software

Quantum-Systems also develops and markets its own software. QBase 3D is for planning and monitoring missions and also able to do PPK processing of the collected survey data with an absolute accuracy of up to 2 cm.
QBase 3D automatically generates flight paths after the flight area and the mission parameters have been defined with just a few clicks. It gives users control over their photogrammetric aerial survey mission and full coverage over the area of interest.

Post-processing the mission data

Once a mission is completed and the UAV landed, the images taken are ready to be imported into Pix4D. Quantum-Systems’ drones and the data generated during each mission are generally software and supplier independent. With Pix4D we can offer our customers an efficient, flexible, and powerful software suite for post-processing that answers their needs in daily operation in their industry.

Our bonds are strong in particularly strategic verticals like railway and infrastructure inspection, but since these drones deliver the quality standards needed for large scale mapping, the potential is immense.
