German Aerospace Center (DLR)

DLR is the Federal Republic of Germany’s research centre for aeronautics and space.

It conducts research and development activities in the fields of aeronautics, space, energy, transport, security, and digitalization.

54 individual research institutes and facilities with 10,000 employees share a mission – to explore Earth and space and develop technologies for a sustainable future.

In its Institute for Optical Sensor Systems, DLR investigates and develops active and passive optical sensor systems for satellites, flying platforms, and robotic systems.

It has a long heritage in the development of aerial mapping systems – including the world’s first commercial digital aerial camera.

With the Modular Aerial Camera Systems (MACS), it brings together current sensor technologies and real-time data analysis for better remote sensing and tactical mapping solutions.
