Trinity F90+ UAV: Rapid disaster relief mission in the Ahr region

Quantum-Systems has joined the AIFER project (Artificial Intelligence for Emergency Response), to perform a mapping mission in the Ahr Valley, Germany. Several places of the Ahr valley were particularly hit by massive floods in the summer of 2021, including Altenburg, Altenahr, Reimerzhoven, Rech and Dernau. The affected area was surveyed with Trinity F90+, under the lead of the German Aerospace Center (DLR) and the Bavarian Red Cross (BRK).

The resulting maps and images are a powerful tool for prior and post- disaster assessment, which ease monitoring and documenting progress. The project’s data will also serve as a basis to develop artificial intelligence (AI) methods that automatically recognize information from satellite, drone data and social media, with the aim of compiling comprehensive up to date maps of disaster areas. The maps will provide rescue team with aerial intelligence, improving decision making processes. Precise aerial information will allow rescue teams to intervene faster and more efficiently, which can ultimately make a difference in the number of lives saved.

Providing first responders with aerial intelligence data to ease emergency operations is a top Priority for Quantum-Systems. It was our pleasure to join the German Aerospace Center (DLR) and the Bavarian Red Cross (BRK) in this common goal.

With a flight time of over 90 minutes, and the long range of up to 100 km, Trinity F90+ was the perfect tool for the mission in the Ahr region. To map the affected area, the rescue teams used the Oblique D2M payload, a powerful oblique imaging system. With five high-resolution, multidirectional RGB cameras the Oblique D2M captures complex geometries with ease.

The main advantage of using drone technology is the immediate data availability. Information and maps that offer an overview of a catastrophic environment are highly needed. In the event of a catastrophe accurate visual data can help rescuers to better coordinate missions.

Founded in 2015, Quantum-Systems is at the forefront of UAS development. Its electric vertical take-off and landing (eVTOL) systems boast industry-leading flight endurance, ease of operation, and reliability. The 2-in-1 vertical take-off reconnaissance UAS, VECTOR™ provides long-endurance, versatility, and flexibility, exceeding the performance of conventional UAS platforms.

VECTOR™ streams live data in real-time using a Mesh IP encrypted data link with a range of 15+ kilometres. Equipped with advanced AI capabilities, the data assessment process of VECTOR™, is supported by automatic detection, identification, and tracking algorithms, which provide on-the-ground tactical units with important safety and efficiency benefits. With a single flight time of 120 minutes, it is suited for applications such as ISR for enhanced situational awareness, area mapping, Search & Rescue (SAR), and convoy and VIP protection. Vector integrates dual electro-optical (EO) and infrared (IR) gimbaled sensors, enabling missions both, at day and night.

Established in 2008, BSS Holland concentrates on providing C5ISR and robotics solutions for challenging security and defense mission gaps. The collaboration with Quantum-Systems is focused on building future readiness for the Tactical Edge, helping professionals in the defense and homeland security organizations by providing state-of-the-art Unmanned Aircraft Systems. Quantum-Systems’  VECTOR™ & SCORPION™ 2-in-1 ISR system is part of the BSS Holland product portfolio since 2021.

BSS Holland supports the Dutch MoD with delivering, training, and providing service for their Light-Remotely Piloted Aircraft Systems catalogue, by pre identifying systems suitable for the use of the MoD. The existence of the drone catalogue drastically reduces the extensive and thorough acquisition time procedures. The Dutch Ministry of Defense uses drones mainly for tasks in the field of Intelligence, Surveillance and Reconnaissance.

 

Supporting the Dutch Ministry of Defense with aerial data intelligence

The Dutch Ministry of Defense chose VECTOR™ as a preferred system due to its versatility, data protection and security capabilities, enabled by the AES-Encrypted mesh IP data link, which is optimized for tactical applications and delivers unprecedented performance in the most challenging environments. No further details on the quantity and timing of the deliveries will be given as agreed by all parties involved.

The real-time onboard data processing and the capabilities of QBase Tactical Mission Control software which can dynamically adjust the mission in flight, makes VECTOR™ the perfect UAS for a wide range of non-invasive aerial operations, allowing ground teams to orchestrate complex missions with a few clicks.

Trinity F90+ UAV is C3 certified!

Trinity F90+ UAV is C3 certified!

As of October 25th ,2022 Trinity F90+ has received the EASA C3 certification, for the EU drone class with a take-off weight of over 4 kg.

Trinity F90+ is prepared for continuous market fit way ahead schedule, as the C3 certification is required in the EU member states only for UAVs purchased from January 1st, 2024.

The certification acknowledges Quantum-System’s commitment for supplying cutting edge technology, while being fully compliant with the complex regulatory framework for UAVs.

All Trinity F90+ users will be eligible to upgrade their systems for C3 compliance. The upgrade is fully voluntary, as UAVs sold before January 1st, 2024, will still be able to legally operate in the A3 category in Europe.

Ensuring compliance with the requirements of the C3 class, Quantum-Systems worked together with Spanish Alter Technology Group (TÜV Nord) to receive the class C3 label for Trinity F90+. Part of the TÜV Nord Group, Alter Technology Group, is the accredited notified body of the EASA for drone classification and CE declarations.

Quantum-Systems announces the appointment of a new CTO

Jan-Hendrik Boelens joins the leadership team and will lead the company’s engineering and technology development

 

Munich (Germany), October 1st, 2022 – Unmanned aerial systems company Quantum-Systems GmbH today announced that Jan-Hendrik Boelens will join its leadership team as chief technology officer (CTO) to lead the company’s engineering and technology development. The company ramps up to meet the needs of a rapidly expanding global defense & security market in parallel to the well-established commercial mapping and GIS market. Jan-Hendrik joins Quantum-Systems on October 1, 2022, after having previously led the development of one of the world’s leading eVTOL aircraft at Volocopter GmbH.

 Jan-Hendrik’s extensive track record of leading software and hardware development for complex civil and defense products will enable Quantum-Systems to accelerate its ambition of becoming one of the leading companies in AI powered autonomous aerial data capture.

Prior to joining Quantum-Systems, Jan-Hendrik held several leadership positions at Volocopter and Airbus. At Volocopter, he served as CTO and managing director, leading the engineering, manufacturing, and certification of the company’s VoloCity electric VTOL aircraft. At Airbus Helicopters, he was a chief engineer for the company’s H135M military helicopter and headed the company’s electrification transformation as leader of its electrical systems engineering department. Jan-Hendrik currently also serves as a member of the advisory board at German AI-startup Spleenlab GmbH.

Quantum-Systems and Teleplan Globe join forces to enhance capabilities of elite units and Special Forces

Munich, Germany and Oslo, Norway, September 13th, 2022: Teleplan Globe, software and system solutions company from Oslo and Munich-based drone manufacturer Quantum-Systems have signed a Memorandum of Understanding to integrate the FACNAV battlespace management system into the Quantum-Systems Vector & Scorpion 2-in-1 platform. The cooperation is designed to add value in future operations by increasing precision in conducting Close Air Support missions and increasing capacity for information sharing.

Working together at eye level for added customer value

Both companies have developed unique systems that, when combined, become a superior asset for the professional user. For Quantum-Systems it was of enormous importance to work with a partner at eye level who is sharing similar values and attitudes. “With Teleplan, we have found exactly this opportunity: two medium-sized companies and global market leaders in their field are more agile, faster and significantly more cost-effective than the established major players in this fields,” states Quantum-Systems CEO Florian Seibel.

The task of the new joint venture is to develop, produce and sell new and innovative products as well as services to solve the challenges of close air support missions and related information sharing to all parties.

“As a leading provider of software and solutions for decision makers that protect people, assets and institutions, we see a huge opportunity in this cooperation,” explains Teleplan Globe Vice President of Sales & Marketing Magne Killingstad. “In addition to its expertise in electronics and UAV development, manufacturing and repair, Quantum-Systems offers its global sales network.”

Generating a practicable superior asset

Teleplan Globe developed the FACNAV system to meet the high demands of an elite unit within the Norwegian Special Forces. The daily operations require flawless and advanced information sharing. To enhance these capabilities, Teleplan Globe teamed up with Quantum-Systems Vector UAS to create a platform for increased precision in special operation missions.

The cooperation between Quantum-Systems and Teleplan Globe started in April 2022, when the German Material Procurement Agency, BAAINBw awarded Teleplan Globe the contract to provide the German Armed Forces with the FACNAV system for Joint Terminal Attack Controllers (JTAC).

Quantum-Systems then got in touch with Teleplan Globe and within a few days we had a complete integration of our Vector into the FACNAV software.

We were able to complete a so-called “zero-day” integration within one day. The Quantum-Systems and Teleplan Globe teams were able to get the video and meta-data into the FACNAV system in real time right off the bat. This could provide immediate added value, at no additional cost, to the German Army in case the special forces decide to procure our Vector reconnaissance drones as part of their Falke procurement programme

Quantum-Systems Vector UAS – The 2in1 Vertical Take-off Reconnaissance UAV

The Vector Vertical Take-Off and Landing (VTOL) Unmanned Aerial System (UAS) provides capabilities to both military and security forces that exceed the performance of current tactical UAS platforms in service all over the world. Teleplan Globe developed FACNAV to meet Norwegian Special Forces’ need to conduct Close Air Support and navigation with a need for extreme precision in combat operations. Focus has been to manage procedures that require both flawless and advanced information sharing.

Since its early days of operations, FACNAV has evolved to support commanders, staffs, units, crews, and operators in planning and executing operations on all levels up to Battalion and HQ.

FACNAV supports a wide range of target locators and designators including the most commonly used by NATO and Western Joint Terminal Attack Controllers and Joint Forward Observers (JTACs/JFOs). FACNAV automatically populates the digital map for further military actions. Furthermore, FACNAV assists, directly or indirectly, the process of delivering effects on targets.
