Deutsches Zentrum für Luft-und Raumfahrt e.V. and Feuerwehr Duisburg use our TRON UAS to detect dangerous situations in a current research project. The research project is led by OPTSAL and also includes Eurocommand GmbH and JENOPTIK as partners. The goal is to find new procedures for real-time data evaluation to support the efficient coordination of emergency forces and disaster management.
On 9th of August 2018, an event with a practical demonstration took place on the Theresienwiese in Munich as part of the DLR research project Live-Lage.
Situation assessment for civil defense and disaster control
The aim of the project is to use UAVs to clarify complex or geographically extensive operational sites and to provide the emergency services with a detailed picture of the situation in real time. As a result they can guide the emergency services in a targeted manner. In 2018 the Oktoberfest offered a perfect setting to show the capabilities oft he systems.
Since then, the system has been continuously improved and came into use last week at a joint exercise last week and showed that drone based reconnaissance flights with DLR’s new type MACS camera system with integrated thermal infrared module can provide real added value for the command and control in rescue and fire fighting applications.
Cooperation between research and civil protection
Deutsches Zentrum für Luft-und Raumfahrt e.V. is the Federal Republic of Germany’s research centre for aeronautics and space. OPTSAL (Optical Technologies for Situational Awareness Lab) is an innovation lab and competence center for optical situation detection for safety and security applications.
A big thank you to all partners for their contribution.
